Improving flood early warning lead time in Nepal
This brief outlines the use of probabilistic forecasting to provide information about the likelihood of flooding in Nepal. As an approach, probabilistic forecasting enables an additional five hours of early warning, which means that families and communities gain crucial hours to get to safety and act to protect themselves, their homes and their livelihoods. This approach is an improvement from flood early warning systems based on real-time monitoring of water levels, which leave communities with little time to respond to flood warnings.
