Transforming water conflicts into collaborative watershed management solutions — lessons from the Greater Himalayan Region
This policy brief provides recommendations for addressing water conflicts through collaborative watershed management, highlighting the need for a multi-stakeholder approach in which the role of local experts is prioritised. It draws upon the case of Kaski District in Nepal, which illustrates the importance of synergy between leaders to understand problems, communicate needs, and identify potential solutions.
Using the case of Nepal, this policy brief provides four recommendations:
- Create information networks for planning and managing water resources.
- Adopt financial regulatory approaches.
- Implement technical solutions: traditional and nature-based infrastructure.
- Capture and integrate local knowledge.
