Primer 3: ICT for disaster risk management

Primer Series 3 on ICT for Disaster Risk Management discusses the basic concepts of ICTs and their role and applications in disaster risk management, and it aims to foster a better understanding of how ICTs can be applied effectively in disaster risk management.

This issue intends to provide university students with practical knowledge and advanced tools to understand how ICT can be used in assessing, preparing for and mitigating disaster risks. The contents are closely linked to Module 9 on ICT for Disaster Risk Management of the Academy of ICT Essentials for Government Leaders, APCICT’s flagship capacity-building programme for government officials. As much as Academy Module 9 has strengthened the capacities of policymakers and government officials in ICT for disaster risk management, this Primer Series will contribute to enhancing the understanding of university students on the topic.
