Mission:
To provide contextualized solutions to current and emerging challenges
About Us:
TARU was established in 1990 as an institution with trans-disciplinary expertise to engage with India’s development challenges. In 1996, it was registered as TARU Leading Edge Private Limited under the Companies Act, offering a commitment of cutting edge research and contextualized consulting services to its clients.
The last two decades have seen us working on a range of institutional, financial, economic, social and technical issues across diverse public systems, cultures and corporate formations, in more than a third of rural and urban domains of India. This includes 28 States and Union Territories, 30 major urban centers across 18 states including megacities. TARU has undertaken work in Nepal, Bangladesh and Myanmar and has provided advisory services across Asia.
Disaster Risk Management and Climate Change:
Our cutting edge work on vulnerability and risk assessment, mitigation planning and reconstruction protects and resurrects lives, property, critical infrastructure and business among the most vulnerable locations on the planet. Two decades of disaster related work now inform our growing climate change work. Our hands-on assessment of major earthquakes, floods and cyclones has fostered our extensive experience in assessing social and economic vulnerability of rural and urban populace. We have developed vulnerability curves for buildings and infrastructural damages due to various disasters. Our studies have been extensively referred and used for deciding quantum of relief packages by the government and donor-funded interventions.
We are a leading firm in undertaking Muti-Hazard Risk and Vulnerability Assessment and preparation of Composite Risk Atlas in South Asia. The Gujarat Hazard Risk and Vulnerability Atlas and Multi- Hazard Risk Assessment in Myanmar are internationally recognized peer reviewed publication and GIS assisted planning framework developed by TARU. We are India country partner for the “Asian Cities Climate Change Resilience Network,” which is first of urban climate change initiative that focuses on assessing climate change related risks to cities across four countries (India, Indonesia, Thailand and Vietnam), and building resilience to a changing, challenging urban environment. Implementations of projects span across strengthening urban services, disease surveillance systems, decentralized urban water management, cool roof and passive ventilation technologies for buildings, establishment of urban health and climate resilience centre, peri-urban lake rejuvenation, & end-to-end early warning system for floods.
Protect and resurrect lives, property, critical infrastructure and business in most vulnerable locations on the planet.

The Sendai Framework Voluntary Commitments (SFVC) online platform allows stakeholders to inform the public about their work on DRR. The SFVC online platform is a useful toolto know who is doing what and where for the implementation of the Sendai Framework, which could foster potential collaboration among stakeholders. All stakeholders (private sector, civil society organizations, academia, media, local governments, etc.) working on DRR can submit their commitments and report on their progress and deliverables.
