Kenya: National Report in preparation for WCDR (2004)
Over the years and recent times Kenya has been exposed to a variety of disasters such as droughts, floods, fires and other emerging disasters including HIV/AIDS and terrorism among others. The Government of Kenya, in recognition of its responsibility to minimize the impact of disasters has fully embarked on disaster management practices that aim at risk reduction in a framework whose sole objective is sustainable development. It is in this context that there has been put in place, administrative, legal and remedial measures during actual and apprehensive national danger or calamity.
This paper highlights the progress made towards risk and disaster reduction in the country, it also poses challenges and workable solutions modeled in Kenya.
