Namibia: National Report in preparation for WCDR (2005)
Namibia is classified as an arid to semi-arid country with an average rainfall of less than 500 mm. This coupled with a high degree of variation in rainfall from year to year renders the country prone to drought disasters. On the other hand, the country experiences flood disasters caused by river and coastal flooding from immense rainfall or inundation associated with seasonal weather patterns. During good years of rainfall, fire disasters are experienced.
