New Zealand: National Report in preparation for WCDR (2005)

New Zealand’s dynamic physical environment and level of technological development means the country is subject to a wide variety of hazards. Considerable work has been carried out over the years by scientific agencies, academic and research institutions, in conjunction with local government and central government into the history, coverage, impacts, and characteristics of our most common hazards. Flooding, earthquakes (liquefaction, ground shaking and active faulting), coastal inundation (tsunami and storm surge), coastal erosion, volcanic hazards, slope instability, meteorological hazards (snow, wind, rain and lightning, drought) and wild fire.
