The essence of the Center is to do multidisciplinary and high level research in understanding phenomena and assessing related hazard and risk. Another crucial component of the Center is to provide training on how to incorporate risk science into everyday reality in an attempt to reduce losses to an acceptable level as well as on how to communicate effectively with government agencies, media, public and private sectors before, during and after natural hazard events.

The Sendai Framework Voluntary Commitments (SFVC) online platform allows stakeholders to inform the public about their work on DRR. The SFVC online platform is a useful toolto know who is doing what and where for the implementation of the Sendai Framework, which could foster potential collaboration among stakeholders. All stakeholders (private sector, civil society organizations, academia, media, local governments, etc.) working on DRR can submit their commitments and report on their progress and deliverables.
