Climate resilience action plan for city assets and operations
Using the climate projections developed by the City of Austin as the basis for identifying risks and vulnerabilities, the Office of Sustainability worked with staff from multiple departments to develop a Climate Resilience Action Plan for City Assets and Operations.
This Climate Resilience Action Plan provides an overview of climate projections for Austin, an assessment of potential extreme weather impacts to City-owned assets and operations, and strategies to mitigate those impacts. Four key climate hazards emerged as the most critical for both short- and long-term planning efforts: (1) Extreme Heat, (2) Drought, (3) Flooding, and (4) Wildfire.
The plan comprises four key strategies to increase resilience:
- Strengthen emergency response
- Expand staff safety plans
- Evaluate and upgrade existing facilities and infrastructure
- Future-proof new facilities and infrastructure
