Convention on the protection and use of transboundary watercourses and international lakes
This Convention establishes agreement between all signing parties to mitigate pollution impacts on transboundary waters and to ensure the ecological integrity of transboundary waters, all the while guaranteeing that waters are used reasonably and equitably.
The Convention also features provisions outlining the monitoring, research and development, exchange of information, responsibility and liability, protection and dissemination of information, and mutual warnings and assistance related to transboundary waters.
It also eliminates any contradictions between its basic principles and already-existing agreements, as its provisions stipulate that Riparian Parties must adapt their mutual agreements to coincide with the Convention.
