Nepal policy for disaster risk reduction (2018)
Nepal’s National Disaster Risk Reduction Policy (2018) was endorsed by the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council meeting held on 18 June 2018 and has been drafted in line with the Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Act (2017). It is Nepal’s first policy aimed at ensuring a long-term provision towards disaster risk reduction and management.
As outlined by Mr. Prem Kumar Rai, Secretary and Ms. Indu Ghimire, Joint Secretary of Ministry of Home Affairs (MoHA) Nepal, the National Policy guides government agencies, development partners, NGOs and private sector in adopting effective processes in infrastructure and construction work towards achieving both the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and a disaster resilient Nepal.
