Saint Lucia’s sectoral adaptation strategy and action plan for the fisheries sector (Fisheries SASAP) 2018-2028
The Sectoral Adaptation Strategy and Action Plan for the Fisheries Sector (Fisheries SASAP) 2018-2028 seeks to strengthen the sustainability of Saint Lucia’s fisheries and fishery-dependent businesses and the security of fisheries-dependent livelihoods under a changing climate. The Fisheries SASAP, funded with the support of the United States In-Country NAP Support Programme (NAP-SP), implemented by the International Institute for Sustainable Development (IISD), builds on previous efforts and projects, and is the product of an in-depth contextual analysis.
The plan consists of 31 adaptation measures that are endorsed by relevant stakeholders and offer solutions to information, technical, institutional, financial, regulatory and policy limitations hampering adaptation in the sector. In the Fisheries SASAP, the adaptation measures are grouped under eight strategic objectives and contribute to these four major expected outcomes:
- - Enhanced enabling environment for climate adaptation action in the fisheries sector
- - Enhanced nutrition, food availability, quality and security through adaptation in the fisheries sector
- - Strengthened partnerships for building sustainable and resilient fisheries in a changing climate
- - Strengthened preparedness to climate variability and extremes in the fisheries sector
