Background

Save the Children is the world’s largest independent child rights development organisation, making a difference to children’s lives in more than 100 countries. From emergency relief to long-term development, Save the Children secures a child’s right to health, education and protection.

Required skills and experience

Save the Children’s work focuses on Child Protection, Child Right Governance, Health and Nutrition (with a focus on Child and Maternal Health) Education, HIV and AIDs and Livelihoods we strive to integrate Disaster Risk Reduction and Climate Change Adaptation into all of our program areas. We are seeking experienced practitioner consultants who have particular skills and experiences in the above mentioned sectors as well as DRR and or CCA.

Whilst there is no one single profile we are seeking from consultants for the register the list below highlights skills and experiences Save the Children will be looking for in applicants:

Skills/abilities


• Demonstrated strategic planning skills.
• Ability to collate, process and synthesis complex information from a variety of sources for communication to a variety of audiences.
• Highly developed communication skills, written and verbal, and the ability to present arguments clearly and effectively to a wide range of internal and external audiences.
• Highly developed relationship building & interpersonal skills, with the ability to liaise with a diverse range of people.
• Highly developed report writing skills.
• Strong time management, administrative and organisational skills.
• Ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines.
• Ability to work in challenging, and sometimes insecure environments.
• High levels of attention to detail and quality.

Knowledge/experience

• Significant direct experience of designing and implementing DRR and/or CCA projects and programs for an international organisation.
• Working knowledge and understanding of emergency and development programs in one or more of our sector focus areas.
• Experience in integrating DRR and/or CCA into development programs.
• Experience in the design and M&E of community-based disaster risk reduction and/or adaptation activities, including:
- Child-centered approaches
- Community consultation
- Vulnerability/adaptive capacity assessments
- Development of participatory adaptation strategies
- Participatory M&E techniques
- Experience in the Asia-Pacific, Africa, Latin America and the Middle East
- Development of community activities to build adaptive capacity
• Experience running workshop and/or training workshop on DRR and/or CCA
• Additional language/s other than English

Qualifications/accreditation

• Tertiary qualification/s in International Development, Social/Political Science or relevant & related discipline to the Save the Children’s sector focus.
