Essential functions

The Climate Change team seeks an intern to support adaptation related policy and project work for Summer 2013. The Climate Team work is focused in three areas: work to mitigate the impacts of climate change, work to reduce emission from deforestation and work to promote strategies aimed to help people and nature adapt to the impacts of climate change.

The Conservancy’s Climate Change Adaptation team strives to empower The Nature Conservancy to achieve enduring conservation in the face of climate change, and to position The Conservancy as a global leader and advocate for nature-based climate adaptation and resilience strategies that can help sustain communities in this time of global change. We implement a suite of strategies designed to accelerate, improve, and expand climate adaptation and resilience efforts by cultivating climate adaptation application knowledge in field programs across the Conservancy, and by advocating for enabling government policies and public/private financial support.

Specifically, the intern will support the organization's U.S. adaptation policy work by providing administrative, research, and general support. This may include research on public policy options and potential advocates, monitoring legislative activity, covering Congressional hearings, analyzing legislation and/or proposed rules, drafting internal and external communication materials, and synthesizing and summarizing research and materials in easily accessible formats.

In addition, the intern will support the organization's Assistant Director of the Climate Team in building the web based site related to the Conservancy’s and partner’s climate adaptation work. The intern will populate and organize the site with information received and collected through a knowledge sharing workshop to be held in May of 2013.

Both projects will also entail interviewing and reaching out to Conservancy staff throughout the organization and staff at federal agencies to collect information and resources.
