The Communications Associate will develop and execute GeoHazards International (GHI)’s strategy for communications, website, and public relations messages and written collateral material. He/she will help to articulate GHI’s mission and brand identity as a leader in helping to reduce risks from natural disasters in the world’s most vulnerable communities. The Associate will be instrumental in maintaining branding and messaging consistency across communication platforms.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
• Plan and coordinate the development of marketing communications and materials for internal and external audiences.
• Outline, draft, edit and refine written content.
• Tailor messaging for use in print and electronic media, presentations, press releases and other communications vehicles.
• Manage incoming media inquires, cultivate and maintain a list of media contacts, and solicit media coverage of GHI’s work.
• Manage and update GHI’s website and social media content.
• Ensure messaging reflects an appropriate voice for technical or lay audience.
• Prepare written collateral (i.e., newsletters, brochures, manuals, etc.) for publication, when applicable.
• Provide writing/editing and documentation services for all GHI projects, as needed.
• Manage collateral development, other marketing/communications projects.
• Effectively coordinate with internal staff,external consultants, subcontractors, vendors and others to complete work.
• Produce bi-monthly electronic messages for GHI supporters.
• Plan and develop GHI’s newsletter and donor appeal
• Perform other job related duties and work on special projects as needed.

Qualifications
• Minimum of 3 years of professional experience in a marketing and/or communications position, preferably in a nonprofit or philanthropic setting.
• Minimum academic qualification: Master’s degree in any discipline
• Ability to work independently and take ownership of projects and deliverables in a fast-paced environment.
• Ability to prioritize and manage multiple complex projects simultaneously with thoroughness, accuracy and timeliness.
• Excellent written and spoken English communication skills
• Ability to grasp technical concepts quickly.
• Meticulous attention to detail.
• Strong computer literacy in social media and MS Office.

The following will be considered a distinct advantage
• Knowledge of Corel Draw and Adobe Creative Suite will be an advantage.
• Familiarity with web design software (e.g., DreamWeaver) programs.
• Experience creating short web videos.
• Masters degree in Mass Communication from a reputed university
