The Cooperation & Development Center (CODEV) at the Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL) is searching for a dynamic intern to assist in the preparation of its massive open online course (MOOC) on disaster risk reduction (DRR).

The intern will contribute to various phases of MOOC development such as course design, creation, and delivery. The position will entail working closely with EPFL faculty and external partners to deliver a pedagogically powerful online course.

The intern will have the opportunity to get a first-hand view of how digital learning is transforming higher education, and will work closely on all the groundwork involved in MOOC production and delivery.

Tasks:

Under the overall guidance of the MOOC Coordinator, anticipated tasks include:

  • Research, compile, analyze, and edit documents and educational material related to DRR
  • Synthesize information and instructional material for development of MOOC content
  • Use a wide variety of media to develop course content that is modular and engaging
  • Secure copyright permissions and track copyright status of photos, graphs, and other resources
  • Format the integration of text, maps, and graphs for the MOOC
  • Take notes and prepare presentations and documents for in-house meetings
  • Other related duties as assigned.

Profile:

  • Master’s degree or equivalent
  • Interest in disaster risk reduction, innovative technologies and sustainable development
  • Solid skills working with online content management, documents, graphics
  • Extreme attention to detail and quality of output
  • Ability to proactively and professionally address issues that may arise
  • Project management skills balanced with adaptability
  • Ability to communicate visually
  • Knowledge of digital design tools
  • Having followed one or several MOOCs in the past is an asset
  • Fluent in spoken or written English. French and/or German are an asset

Compensation and General Terms of Employment:

A modest stipend of 2,000 Swiss Francs is available to support living expenses. No other remuneration of any kind shall be paid.

EPFL-CODEV accepts no responsibility for the intern’s medical insurance or for costs arising from illness during the internship. Interns are required to provide proof of medical insurance coverage.

The purpose this internship is not to lead to further employment with EPFL or CODEV but to complement an intern’s studies. Therefore, there should be no expectation of employment at the end of the internship.

Please note that this is a locally recruited position. The intern should be either a Swiss national or a holder of a valid Swiss Work Permit.
