The Center for Security Studies (CSS) at ETH Zurich is a center of competence for Swiss and international security policy. It offers security policy expertise in research, teaching, and consultancy. The Center is currently seeking a Researcher/Senior Researcher Risk & Resilience (80-100%) to join the Risk and Resilience Team within the Center’s Think Tank.

As a member of the Think Tank Risk and Resilience Team you will contribute to advancing expertise across one or more of the key fields in which we work: disaster management, civil protection, socio-technical resilience, critical infrastructure protection, crisis management, and cyber security.

We are seeking a social scientist who is capable of conducting applied research and writing policy-relevant reports for the Swiss administration and other contracting organizations, including from the private sector. You will help to further the applied research focus on risk and resilience at the CSS, and build the international reputation of the Center by publishing your work in-house and through academic outlets and participating in national and international conferences.

Requirements:

  • Advanced university degree (PhD), preferably in the social sciences, but the candidate should be able to demonstrate a capacity to work collaboratively within and beyond the social sciences.
  • Several years of post-doctoral experience should complement your high-level analytical skills.
  • The CSS is a multi-lingual working environment, so proficiency in English alongside one other Swiss national language are required.
  • Experience working with international organizations would be an asset.
  • Knowledge of the Swiss political landscape is an advantage.
  • An independent and well-organized working style, as well as good communication skills and the ability to work in an international team will be essential.

We offer a multifaceted and challenging position at a renowned university with a motivating environment. For further enquiries, please contact Dr. Tim Prior (tim.prior@sipo.gess.ethz.ch)
