The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) is a global humanitarian organization, which coordinates and directs international assistance following natural and human-made disasters in non-conflict situations. The IFRC works with National Societies in responding to catastrophes around the world. Its relief operations are combined with development work, including disaster preparedness programmes, health and care activities, and the promotion of humanitarian values.

The IFRC Pacific - Country Cluster Support Team (CCST) Suva, invites applications for the position of:

Supporting National Societies to develop their resilience programs

Suva based with extensive regional travel (up to 60%)

The Regional Resilience Project Officer- Capacity Building and Training is placed within the Community Programming Unit (CPU) of the IFRC Pacific CCST. The Community Programming Unit supports the development of the community resilience (disaster risk reduction (DRR), climate change adaptation, branch and volunteer development) and management capacities of Pacific National Societies.

The focus of the role will be in supporting National Societies to develop their resilience programs. Initially this will involve support through implementation of the CPU projects and will involve planning, training, monitoring of projects to be consistent with the developing Red Cross regional resilience approaches. The role will have a strong gender and diversity focus.

Qualifications, skills, experience:

  • Professional qualification in DRR, Climate Change, Community development or project management
  • Three years’ experience in DRR, Climate Change or Community development with skills in supporting, training and developing staff, volunteers or communites
  • Hands-on experience in programme management related to disaster risk management, capacity building and organizational development prefered
  • Demonstrated experience and understanding in gender and diversity
  • Experience in developing and managing partnerships at local, national and regional level
  • Experience in supporting the development of programme management skills
  • Experience working or volunteering for the Red Cross Red Crescent Movement or in more than one Pacific country an advantage
  • Excellent communication skills and willingness to learn and share knowledge
  • Fluently spoken and written English (required) and other Pacific language (desirable)
