Working in more than 120 countries, we do whatever it takes to create breakthroughs in the way the world treats children. Our UK and Global Programmes department delivers humanitarian and development programmes, builds partnerships with institutional donors – including governments, multi-laterals and trusts – and drives lasting change. Together, we save children’s lives, fight for their rights and help them fulfil their potential.

As Risk and Resilience Advisor you will provide expertise to help develop the capacity of Save the Children staff to design, manage and deliver programmes across our portfolio, building on good practice. You will focus on strengthening our planning, monitoring, evaluation and learning of resilience building as well as resilience knowledge management. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Enhancing SCUK’s capacity to effectively contribute to improving children’s rights and ability to realise their potential
  • Supporting the development and implementation of programme policy for SCUK aiming to build resilience against shocks and stresses
  • Integrating resilience building concepts and practicalities across SCUK’s development programmes, developing synergies with our humanitarian programmes
  • Ensuring projects that aim to build resilience are underpinned by robust evidence and informed by good practice and effective learning.

To be successful you will be ready to drive our work in a new direction, redefining what resilience means for Save the Children and for Children globally. You will have demonstrable expertise in implementing and/or managing Resilience Building, Risk Reduction and Climate Change Adaptation programmes in international development, as well as a professional qualification in development or a relevant social science. In addition, you will have:

  • An extensive network among INGO and academics in the resilience / DRR / CCA domain
  • An understanding of child-related programming in health, education and/or protection sectors and involving children in policy and programming
  • The latest technical knowledge of resilience of complex system (including technical expertise on DRR and CCA)
  • Experience of implementing and/or commissioning M&E and using evidence based innovation within an institution
  • Demonstrated monitoring and evaluation skills.

You must be able and willing to travel up to 20% annually for up to 2 weeks per visit. Fluency in French is desirable.

At Save the Children our mission is to inspire breakthroughs in the way the world treats children and to achieve immediate and lasting change in their lives. If you share our mission, are passionate about making it happen and strongly believe you can contribute then join us and we'll give you every opportunity to succeed. We look forward to hearing from you.
