We have an opportunity for a Research Assistant or Research Associate to work as part of a team on an EPSRC funded project within Alliance Manchester Business School in collaboration with the School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering at the University of Manchester as well as Universidad de Chile and Pontificia Universidad Catolica de Chile.

The position involves contributing to the research on a project called “Disaster management and resilience in electric power systems”. The position is to support the community resilience work-package.

This is a 12 month, fixed-term position, and is open to those who have completed, or are about to complete a PhD or have equivalent training in qualitative research methods. You will be joining our Operations Management academics within the Division of Management Science and Marketing and will be involved with the Humanitarian and Conflict Research Institute (HCRI).

Salary: £25,769 to £29,847 p.a. (Research Assistant) or £30,738 to £32,600 p.a. (Research Associate)
Hours per week: full time

The role includes the following responsibilities:

  • Undertaking a literature review on community resilience design and implementation.
  • Collecting data in Chile from community groups on resilience activities.
  • Supporting the implementation of community resilience in Chile.
  • Producing research publications for high-quality academic journals.

You should have experience of qualitative data collection and analysis as well as report writing. They should have an interest in research in community resilience. Well-developed team working, communication, interpersonal skills and a proven track record of delivery are essential.

Please note that if you do not have permission to work in the UK, the University of Manchester will not be able to obtain a Certificate of Sponsorship for you to take up this position as a Research Assistant. All non EU/EEA candidates at Research Assistant level must have valid immigration status and/or a UK visa valid for the duration of the contract in order to be considered for this appointment. This does not apply to appointment at Research Associate level, which meets eligibility criteria.
