TARU Leading Edge plans to recruit a Training and Capacity Building Specialist to design and develop various training modules and also to conduct training programs on disaster risk reduction (DRR) and urban climate change resilience (UCCR).

This is a fulltime position under Risk and Resilience practice of TARU Leading Edge. The specialist will work from TARU’s New Delhi office under the direct supervision of Practice Head or Director, Risk and Resilience. She/he will also work closely with Practices Managers of Risk and Resilience of TARU.

The Training and Capacity Building Specialist is expected to play a key role through leading initiatives in Risk and Resilience Sector in the area of training module design & development. TARU is therefore considering to engage a dynamic, self-motivated, and results-oriented Training and Capacity Building Specialist to provide necessary support to other project activities where needed

The main objective of the assignment is to design & develop training modules and also to conduct trainings on DRR and UCCR.

Tasks

The specific tasks to be undertaken are:

  • Review the existing global, regional and national best practices on training and capacity building related to DRR and UCCR.
  • Collect and review all existing course materials from various national and international sources.
  • Design training modules with consideration for the specific needs of South Asia that would include training inputs, training methodologies and India-specific case studies for approval of Practice Head.
  • Submit draft training design for review to Practice Head and Practice Managers.
  • Incorporate feedback from Practice Managers into a Final Training Design and submit to Practice Head.
  • Develop draft training modules based on the approved Final Training Design, which shall include:
    • Power points and prezi presentations
    • Suggestive simulation modules
    • Suggestive field visit area,
    • Suggestive exercise during field visit
    • Instructor Guide
    • Participant’s Manual/Training Tool Kit
    • Scenarios for small group and plenary exercises
    • Case Studies specific to South Asia and India
    • Provide brief descriptions of multi-media/films for different sections of the Modules that could augment training materials, to be developed separately as deemed appropriate.
  • While developing training materials, the Specialist shall ensure that:
    • Course materials are consistent with the Guidelines of the WMO, IPCC, UNFCCC, UNISDR, UNDP, NDMA, IMD, GSI, CWC.
    • There should not be any IPR related issue. Should be original work of specialist and the material developed during the work assignment will be intellectual property of TARU.
    • Terminology used in all module materials is consistent to the WMO, IPCC, UNFCC, UNISDR and NDMA, IMD, GSI, CWC, government framework, and cultural context;
    • Scenarios and Case Studies are designed around specific learning points relevant to the Module unit;
    • Various cross cutting issues relevant to disaster management are incorporated in the modules.
  • In the process of developing Draft Module and training materials, seek comments and suggestions from experts and practitioners and incorporate them in the Module to the extent possible and desirable.
  • Submit the Draft Module materials to Practice Head and Practice Managers for review.
  • Revise Draft Module as per inputs and recommendations provided Practice Head and Practice Managers.
  • Submit the Final Training Module materials to Practice Head.
  • Communicate and collaborate with national and regional training institutions in similar field.
  • Develop publicity contents for wider outreach.
  • Develop a pool of experts and subject matter specialists.
  • Organize regular training events with support from technical team and subject experts.
  • Develop feedback mechanism post training events.
  • Perform other related duties as required.
