The School of GeoSciences, University of Edinburgh is seeking to appoint a Lecturer/Senior Lecturer in Disasters. In particular, we welcome applications from candidates who specialise in Disasters from an interdisciplinary critical social science or humanities perspective, who have experience in researching at the intersections between disasters and key topics such as gender, race and development, and experience in developing inter-disciplinary collaborations between the physical and social sciences.

The post-holder will:

  • Pursue excellent independent research, secure research funding commensurable with the level of post, engage in impact activities and supervise postgraduate students;
  • Deliver and develop teaching at postgraduate and undergraduate levels;
  • Undertake leadership and administrative duties in teaching, student support or university administration.

The successful applicant will join a large group of researchers with interests in hazards and disasters from both a physical and social sciences perspective. The University is committed to research in this area and has recently appointed a Chair in Natural Hazard Science, and has become a member of the UK Alliance for Disaster Research. Parallel expertise on disasters exists in the social sciences across the University, as well as in issues of gender, race and development within the School. This post provides an exciting opportunity to link this expertise across the social sciences and to open new opportunities for interdisciplinary collaborations between the physical and social sciences across the School and University.

Candidates should hold a PhD in a relevant discipline, have teaching experience and a publication record commensurate with career stage.

Presentations and Interviews are likely to take place in the week commencing 7th August 2017.

This is an open-ended post available from 1st of October 2017 or earlier if possible.
