About the Asian Disaster Preparedness Center

ADPC is an intergovernmental regional organization with a vision to reduce disaster and climate risk impacts on communities and countries in Asia and the Pacific. It works with governments, development partners, international organizations, NGOs, civil society, private sector, media, and other key stakeholders. In addition to its headquarters in Bangkok, Thailand, ADPC currently has offices/representation in 11 additional countries.

Established in 1986 as a technical capacity building center, ADPC has grown and diversified its expertise across the social and physical sciences. It supports sustainable solutions for risk reduction across a broad range of specialist areas. With over 100 staff from 19 different nationalities and a wide range of professional expertise, from atmospheric to social scientists, it has experience at all levels of engagement typically required for effective disaster risk reduction and climate resilience. ADPC is a competent regional resource center and has seven thematic departments: ADPC Academy, Risk Governance, Climate Resilience, Urban Resilience, Health Risk Management, Preparedness for Response and Recovery, Geospatial Information. These are supported by Finance, Human Resources and Administration and Strategic Planning departments. In addition to the departments, ADPC addresses three cross-cutting themes through permanent working committees: Gender and Diversity, Poverty and Livelihoods, and Regional and Transboundary Cooperation.

The ADPC Strategy 2020 guides the organization in providing comprehensive risk reduction support to countries and communities in Asia and the Pacific. ADPC recognizes the importance of examining the linkages between disaster risk management, poverty reduction, gender equality, sustainability, rights-based approaches, climate change, and regional cooperation.

ADPC takes various levels of actions in a close connection with the national, regional and global frameworks including; e.g. ASEAN, SAARC, MRC, 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction 2015-2030 (SFDRR), the Paris Agreement for climate change, the New Urban Agenda, the World Humanitarian Summit, etc.

Statement of intent

The Project Coordinator will provide project coordination support for implementing projects and programs in Myanmar.

This position is located in Yangon, Myanmar.

Note: It is not the intent of this Position Description to cover every aspect of the position requirements, rather to highlight the most important areas of personal and joint responsibility.

Duties and responsibilities

Within delegated responsibility, the Project Coordinator will be responsible for the following duties:

  • Coordinate and support the implementation of “Urban Resilience to Climate Extremes in Southeast Asia,” a project funded by NORAD;
  • Support the project team with local research (field research, desk research, institutional assessments) under the guidance of the senior technical professionals of ADPC;
  • Coordinate national- and state-level workshops, events, participants and field missions during the project;
  • Assist the project teams with designing workshop material/training materials and training, and conducting periodic reviews of existing training materials to suit project needs;
  • Provide secretarial support like minutes taking, drafting letters, preparation of documents related to projects;
  • Record, back-up and update project materials in a secure environment on a regular basis;
  • Provide necessary administrative and financial support in the implementation of the project;
  • Works closely with the Finance Department and Human Resources and Administration Department of ADPC;
  • Work closely with other staff in headquarters, Bangkok, Thailand; and
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the thematic Director(s) and Senior Manager(s) and Country Representative.

Required qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor’s’ or Master’s degree in Disaster Management, Public Administration, Social Sciences, Business Administration or any other related field;

Work experience

  • A minimum of 3-5 years of experience in project coordination and support, training coordination, Admin and Finance support is essential;
  • Excellent computer skills especially in word-processing, spreadsheets, powerpoint, emailing and other related MS Office software is essential;
  • Previous experience in working with Government organizations, NGOs, State Government Authorities and Civil Societies in Myanmar relating to Disaster Management is essential is an advantage.

Languages

English is the working languages of ADPC. For the post advertised, fluency in English is required. Knowledge of Burmese language is an advantage.

Reporting relationship

  • Direct Supervisor(s) on program management/project activities: Director – Climate Resilience (CLR) & Director – Urban Resilience (URR) Departments;
  • Direct Supervisor on day-to-day operations and office administration and management: Country Representative
