Safer communities through disaster risk reduction: the cost (and savings) of doing business
In honour of DRR Day on 8 October, InterAction's Disaster Risk Reduction Working Group is holding a seminar from 13:30 to 17:00 to explore tools for cost-benefit analysis, focusing largely on economic implications of disaster risk reduction. Current field-based research and case studies will be used to analyze the value of investing in programs to reduce vulnerable communities’ exposure to disasters and equip them with skills to better cope and recover. Guest speakers include Ian O’Donnell of the World Bank Provention Consortium, Courtenay Venton of Environmental Resources Management and Shabbar Saifee of FEMA. Those interested in participating are requested to RSVP to Jillian Robbins by 6 October.
