Public exposé of Indonesian national platform for DRR (Planas PRB Indonesia) and workshop on indigenous knowledge for DRR
Indonesian disaster risk reduction (DRR) stakeholders declared their commitment to establish a national platform for DRR in November 2008. Subsequent to that, several focused-group discussions and public consultations involving the national DRR multi-stakeholders have been conducted to formulate the structure and organizational arrangement of the national platform (in Indonesian, Planas PRB Indonesia). Currently the structure and organizational arrangement, including the composition of the governing and executive Boards, have been finalized.
This event will present Planas PRB Indonesia to the general public, to introduce the forum as well as promote greater participation from the public. The public exposure will be followed by a half-day seminar on indigenous knowledge in DRR from Indonesian experiences. It is expected that findings and recommendations from the seminar will lead to the development of a strategy for invigorating indigenous knowledge in DRR, particularly with regards to traditional early warning systems and local coping mechanisms in line with the Hyogo Framework for Action.
