Date

In June, last year, the government released the U.K Climate Projections 2009 (UKCP09), a set of models for the future U.K climate. The projections have been designed to allow businesses and organisations to obtain the best possible information about the likely future environment for use in their planning and risk management activities. Therefore climate change adaptation and disaster/crisis preparation are necessary applications of UKCP09 and our training courses are aimed at teaching people how to use UKCP09 for these purposes.

This foundation course aims to introduce people from any background or discipline to UKCP09 and give them:
-The skills to retrieve and interpret climate data
-Guidance on applying this data to their work

Course description

In summary it features two complementary components:
Part 1:
-Starting in the morning, this session covers a range of methods for obtaining useful information from the Projections.
-A series of set exercises allows trainees to gain experience with the user interface and tutors explain how to read the range of graphs and maps produced.

Part 2:
-After lunch, trainees work in groups and apply the skills learnt earlier to use the Projections in answering a hypothetical adaptation query.
-This exercise is intended to equip trainees with the confidence and knowledge to be able to exploit the Projections in their work.
-Trainees are encouraged to bring their own adaptation interests to explore during this session.

Training facilities

The training suites able to accommodate 20 delegates.
Course registration will begin at 09:00. Courses will start promptly at 09:30 and run until 16:00.
