On the International Day for Disaster Reduction, an official ceremony will be held with the participation of the UN Resident Coordinator, Minister of Emergency Situations (MoES), Minister of Education and Science (MES), Yerevan City Mayor, representatives of other line ministries, donor organizations and NGOs.
After official speeches, a documentary film on making cities resilient to disasters will be screened and ISDR materials on the campaign will be distributed.
A seminar on “Strengthening Partnerships for Disaster Risk Reduction” will follow organized by UNICEF, in partnership with UNDP, MoES and MES with the aim to raise awareness of the participants on disaster risk reduction issues.
Within the “Making Cities Resilient: My City is getting ready!” campaign, the Crisis Management State Academy of MoES, in partnership with UNDP, the Yerevan City Mayor and the "Emergency Channel" Information Centre of MoES will organize special one week classes/trainings on earthquakes in 30 schools of Yerevan.
These classes are aimed at raising the awareness of schoolchildren on earthquakes, their risks and preparedness. Information on International Day for Disaster Reduction (background, slogan, aim, etc.) will also be provided. This activity is a voluntary work and will be considered as a good example for promoting volunteerism in DRR and raising public awareness.
