Learning from Experience: Presenting NCCARF synthesis research
Background
National Climate Change Adaptation Research Facility (NCCARF) conducts a program of research to synthesis and integrate existing and emerging climate change adaptation knowledge for delivery to end users. This event presents results from this program over its first two years of operation, and introduces plans for the future.
Learning from experience
Examining past extreme events and interpreting the human response has something to tell us about how adaptation to climate change has taken place, and will take place in future:
- What makes communities vulnerable to extreme events?
- How and why do communities change their behaviour after extremes?
- What are the enablers of successful adaptation actions?
- What actions strengthen resilience, and what are examples of maladaptation?
NCCARF has carried out seven case studies of past extremes to explore these questions, and will report on some of the results at this meeting.
