R3ADY Asia-Pacific is committed to reducing the risks of natural disasters and building resilient communities and economies through innovative and strategic partnerships. R3ADY does this by identifying key knowledge and information gaps and promoting solutions and innovations to advance community and economic resilience. It brings together diverse partners in government, business, civil society, philanthropy, academia and the military.
R3ADY Asia-Pacific was launched in 2011 at the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit in Honolulu as the Asia Pacific Disaster Risk Reduction and Resilience (APDR3) Network. The founding members recognized that the investments and efforts that were required to address natural disasters were outstripping the capacity of governments alone. R3ADY was founded on the premise that there are steps we can take to mitigate the risks and impacts of natural disasters, but we must work together across all sectors of society.
The Sendai Framework Voluntary Commitments (SFVC) online platform allows stakeholders to inform the public about their work on DRR. The SFVC online platform is a useful toolto know who is doing what and where for the implementation of the Sendai Framework, which could foster potential collaboration among stakeholders. All stakeholders (private sector, civil society organizations, academia, media, local governments, etc.) working on DRR can submit their commitments and report on their progress and deliverables.
