Events organized by the NEMA Mongolia on occasion of the IDDR11

Within the framework of the IDDR11, the National Emergency Management Agency of Mongolia in cooperation with other relevant agencies have organized variety of awareness raising activities on disaster prevention and risk reduction amongst the youths of Ulaanbaatar:

1. NEMA, Mongolia and Authority of Children jointly organized the forum on "Public Initiatives on Potential Risk Prevention and Protection of Children" and involved policy making senior officers from the National Emergency Management Agency, Emergency Management Department of Capital city as well as district level Emergency Management Departments. Over four hundred Children has simultaneously attended the forum including the homeless and disabled children.

2. The illuminated and dedicated to the International Day of Disaster Reduction advertisement board with the theme of “Making Children and Young People Partners for Disaster Risk Reduction” has been placed in front of the Sukhbaatar square of Ulaanbaatar.

3. The project “Strengthening human resource capacity of child protection organization with staff to protect children during emergency” was launched officially.

4. The Capital City Emergency Management Department and the Authority for Children organized jointly the “Open Day” to introduce rescue activities of Rescue Sub-Unit and Emergency Team-105 to students of the 45th and 105th Secondary Schools. Totally 63 students took a part in this event.

5. The Capital City Emergency Management Department in cooperation with the Department of Education conducted “Earthquake Evacuation Drill” and “Fire Prevention Table Top Training” simultaneously at all 81 secondary schools of Ulaanbaatar. 200 emergency managers and state disaster inspectors, 4105 teachers, school workers and 61689 students have been involved in this event.

6. The activities organized in the framework of the International Day for Disaster Reduction and interviews have been broadcasted through the channels of Mongolian National TV, Eagle TV, Shuud TV and TV5 and published in daily newspapers of “Onoodor”, “Odriin sonin” and “Zuunii medee”.

7. The article “The International Day for Disaster Reduction” by Mr. Sh.Boldbaatar, National Project Manager, UNDP project MON/08/305 “Strengthening the Disaster Mitigation and Management System in Mongolia”, was published in the 237th edition of the newspaper “National Post” on 13 October 2011.
