SAARC Training program on role of media in disaster risk reduction in South Asia
The training program has been designed to provide a comprehensive overview on the role of media in disaster risk reduction in South Asia with a focus on topics relating to understanding the context in which the risk prevails and the possible response to its reduction. Environmental, social and technological dimensions of disasters and their risk reduction would be discussed. It is intended to give an exposure to the participants various policies, strategies, techniques of managing pre and post disaster situations. Participants will also be in a position to share their experience from their context for disaster risk reduction and management. Besides theoretical presentations on the role of professionals, education, awareness, motivations for risk reduction, there will be field visits to disaster stricken areas to see how the people cope with it.
As per the harmonized provision for the SAARC regional centers, the travel expenses for the participants shall be borne by their sponsoring organizations of the member countries. The local hospitalities such as accommodation, food, local transport, study materials etc. shall be borne by the SAARC Disaster Management Centre (SDMC) and organized by the Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET).
