Building resilient regions after a natural disaster: Abruzzo 2030, OECD forum
Background
The forum aims at discussing priorities for a development strategy to get Abruzzo out of its backwardness and for the rebirth of L’Aquila after the 2009 earthquake. Issues considered are those emerged by the analysis and on field interviews in the framework of an ongoing study carried out by the OECD in partnership with the University of Groningen. Addressing the challenges can benefit from a comparison with similar experiences around the world and from a debate between local and international experts.
The intention of this forum is to help identifying policy options for rebuilding a stronger and more prosperous region, clarifying the expected outcomes and the conditions to achieve them. To reach this aim, an open exchange of information among all interested people is foreseen.
The Forum will also provide an opportunity to share experiences with other international regions that have faced or are still facing similar recovery and strategic development challenges following a natural disaster.
