DRR checklist for lawmakers : Inception workshop
The disaster law programme is convening an Inception Workshop on Developing a Disaster Risk Reduction Checklist for Lawmakers. The workshop is the first step in an initiative to develop a disaster risk reduction (DRR) checklist for lawmakers, as a way to reflect best practice and encourage the development and implementation of effective laws.
This advocacy initiative is founded in both the Hyogo Framework for Action 2005-2015 (HFA) Priority 1, and a specific mandate from the 31st International Conference of the Red Cross and Red Crescent in November 2011 on strnegtherning disaster laws.
The meeting is being held in the context of a joint project by the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) to research, compare and consult on the efforts of various countries to strengthen how their laws support the reduction of disaster risks, particularly at the community level.
