Background

GTCB is a competency-based professional training program in Geospatial Information Science and Technologies (GIS&T). This program is designed to support the continual growth and improvement of your employees performance. It provides employees an opportunity to enhance their geospatial technical skills and improve the knowledge underlying these skills.

All courses are delivered over a period of 5 days (40 hours of training). We offer courses at partner locations in your country or at the state-of-the-art-lab facilities in New Mexico State University, USA. GTCB delivers each course with material and emphasis on learning objectives that are most relevant to our clients. GTCB targets and customizes your training needs and effectively ensures all elements of your required competencies are covered. GTCB recognizes and believes the “know why knowledge” is the key to a student truly comprehending the training. Understanding “why” you are doing something is just as important as ”how” you are doing something. We offer both levels of understanding through each step of the GTCB training. GTCB optimizes its training delivery through supporting four broad training tiers that correspond to specific GIS&T practice areas: Domain specific, Emerging Technologies, Cross Cutting, and GeoMaturity.

Course Name : Integrated Geospatial Technologies for Public Safety and Homeland

This course provides a hands-on approach to using geographic information systems (GIS) and data from satellite imagery, aerial photographs, and global positioning systems (GPS), to develop and manage local and regional public safety and homeland security tasks and assist in the decision-making processes typical of public safety and homeland security agencies.

Learning objectives

  • Describe how geospatial technology can be utilized in public safety and homeland security.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in the basic functions of geospatial software and hardware useful for public safety and homeland security agencies.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in creation, acquisition and management of spatial data including an awareness of the use of map projections, coordinate systems and data quality to public safety and homeland security agencies.
  • Demonstrate basic proficiency visualizing geospatial data and analysis by creating different types of maps using map elements and design principles.
  • Demonstrate awareness of fundamental concepts in the use of remote sensing and aerial photos for use in public safety and homeland security.
  • Demonstrate the use of basic spatial analysis techniques important for public safety and homeland security.

Course Name : Integrated Geospatial Technologies for Health

Trainees will have a fundamental knowledge of concepts and use of geospatial technology to create and manage geospatial data and perform basic spatial analysis in order to effectively perform a host of multi-faceted tasks pertaining to public health and healthcare informatics, as well as community health and regulatory issues.

Learning objectives

  • Describe the role of geospatial technologies across a range of health related problems and applications applications such as mapping health/disease information, health surveillance applications, analysis of health risks and spread of infectious diseases, analysis of health vulnerabilities, geocoding of addresses, analysis of access to health services, prevalence estimates, and assessment or community and neighborhood health profiles.
  • Demonstrate command and understanding of the basic structure of spatial databases
  • Demonstrate an operational understanding of geospatial software and hardware useful for public health and healthcare management practices.
  • Demonstrate basic proficiency in visualizing geospatial data and analysis by creating different types of maps using map elements and design principles.
  • Demonstrate basic proficiency in geocoding and address matching applications
  • Demonstrate awareness of fundamental concepts in the use of remote sensing and aerial photos for use in public health and healthcare management.
  • Demonstrate the use of basic spatial analysis techniques important for public health and healthcare management
  • Possess capability of conducting Exploratory Spatial Data Analysis and describe its relevance in designing health investigation

Course Name : Integrated Geospatial Technologies for Local Government, Level I

By completing this course, trainees will have a fundamental knowledge of concepts and use of geospatial technology to create and manage geospatial data and perform basic spatial analysis in order to effectively perform a host of multi-faceted task pertaining to city management and regional planning issues.

Course Name : Remote Sensing and Digital Image Processing – Level I

You will learn and acquire hands on experience of a range of theoretical and practical topics at the interface of contemporary remote sensing studies; including the spectral, spatial and temporal requirements of remotely sensed data in relation to various phenomena, and methods and techniques for analyzing remote sensing imagery and for integrating RS data and image processing with GIS to address a diversity of problems.

Learning objectives

  • Explain the physical principles of remote sensing and the technical characteristics and constraints of Earth Observation missions
  • Identify similarities and differences of the various remote sensing systems in public and commercial use, and possess the ability to select and acquire data suited for specific applications.
  • Describe and demonstrate basic proficiency in image preparation and preprocessing in methods
  • Demonstrate basic proficiency in digital image classification, field data collection and accuracy assessment.
  • Critically evaluate the opportunities and available methods for integrating remote sensing and GIS.

Course Name : Managing Geospatial Projects

You will learn how to create and execute GIS project plans that document the activities and tasks associated with each project from the time of project inception to project closure. You will receive hands-on training on how to track and manage project risks, deliverables, expenses, resources, and schedules using such tools as Microsoft Project and/or other project management systems.

Learning objectives

  • Demonstrate basic proficiency in applying the 44 principles and processes of the PMI’s Project Body of Knowledge (PMBOK) to the context of geospatial project management life cycle.
  • Apply knowledge, skills and tools to identify project requirements, establish clear and achievable objects, and balance competing demands for quality, scope, time and cost.
  • Adapt effective techniques for the management of and communication with project stakeholders.
  • Demonstrate basic proficiency in documenting project tasks, effective time management, and techniques to critical evaluate and reduce risks.
  • Possess the skills to plan for procurement and staff training.
  • Possess the skills to evaluate performance and apply corrective/mitigation measures.
