Book Launch: Risk Management and Animal Protection in Disasters - Increasing the Resilience of the Livestock Sector

SENASA, World Animal Protection and the Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture (IICA) present the Costa Rican Experience "Risk Management and Animal Protection in Disasters: Increasing the resilience of the livestock sector" through a publication containing, inter alia:

  • The international and national context of the disaster risk management for animals
  • The recognition by a country´s Chief Veterinary Officer of the importance of livelihood protection of the livestock
  • The mechanisms used for the development of skills and capabilities, financial and logistical resources for the attention of epidemic and non-epidemic emergencies by SENASA, in coordination with the National Commission for Risk Management and Emergency Response (CNE, Spanish Acronym)
  • Lessons learned and improvement opportunities that could benefit similar processes in other countries and regions.

There will also be a brief presentation by Ricardo Mena from the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction on the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction.
