XI Conference: International Day for Disaster Reduction
Introduction
The International Day for Disaster Reduction, established by the General Assembly of the United Nations (UN), is a reflection on the issue of disasters regarding the phases of prevention, rescue and rehabilitation. It calls for new strategies of action at local level and regional, particularly in the adoption of mechanisms and measures to prevent, able to minimise losses and socio-economic damage.
Theme
The theme of this conference is "Reducing Disasters Mortality at Local Level" thus special attention will be given to the issue of “Live to Tell”. The papers presented at the conference will portray best practices in risk reduction implemented by the communities and the work carried out over the past five years within the "Amadora Resilient Campaign" (MCR).
Topics
The conference comprises two panel discussions. The first will be on the topic "The challenges of reducing mortality in a disaster situation" and the second will be on the "Information and awareness for the reduction of risks in the municipality of Amadora (Portugal)". Actors with extensive experience in these matters will participate for both topics.
