Discussion brief: Climate risk management and finance in Sri Lanka
This discussion brief provides a summary of some findings from the project "Multi-Actor Partnership on Climate and Disaster Risk Financing and Preparedness in the Context of the InsuResilience Global Partnership," through which SLYCAN Trust is engaging with key actors and stakeholders to conduct research and build capacities for risk management, risk transfer, and risk finance. Climate risk and climate-induced loss and damage pose severe threats to Sri Lanka's agriculture sector and its rural population. This document compiles a summary of points discussed during a series of consultations, dialogues, and workshops organized by SLYCAN Trust in Sri Lanka between January and May 2021.
Project activities focus on analyzing climate risk management and risk transfer in the agriculture sector to map out key stakeholders, identify gaps, needs, and opportunities, build capacities, and develop multi-actor partnerships in Sri Lanka. Ongoing research and stakeholder dialogues continue to enhance knowledge and understanding of climate vulnerabilities on the ground and along the supply and value chain, climate and disaster risk management, risk finance, and risk transfer in Sri Lanka, especially with regard to the agriculture sector.
