Job purpose

Support the work of UNESCO’s Section on Earth Sciences and Geo-Hazards Risk Reduction in the field of disaster risk reduction (DRR). Contribute to the development, implementation and administration of the Section’s projects and initiatives. Engage in policy and technical dialogue with related sectors in UNESCO and other organizations to build synergies and partnerships on DRR initiatives. Responsibilities

  • Assist the team on the implementation of the projects from technical and logistical point of view. The projects include the ones at the Headquarters and the Field Offices.
  • Assist the team on the coordination among different Sectors and Field Offices on DRR activities to create synergies on UNESCO DRR.
  • Assist the team on explanation to and consultation with the Member States on the upcoming and on-going DRR projects at the Headquarters.
  • Assist the team on the collaboration with the partners including UNESCO’s expert network and other UN Inter-Agency platforms, by seeking the further potential collaboration and to providing UNESCO’s inputs.
  • Assist in drafting project proposals, project reports, brochures and training materials for the activities implemented by the Section as required.
  • Contribute to the preparation of inputs for meetings and workshops.
  • Assist the identification of new opportunities and partners for UNESCO’s DRR.
  • Get acquainted with the work of UNESCO and perform other related duties as required.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled or having recently completed a Master's Degree or equivalent in disaster risk management, natural sciences, geography, architecture, civil/environmental engineering or other related fields.
  • Fluency in French and English (both oral and written) is required. Native French speaker is a good asset.
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Good IT skills including knowledge of office software (e.g. word processing, spreadsheets).

Period

Up to six months, starting date: to be agreed upon (as soon as possible).

Remuneration

Kindly note that internships at UNESCO are unpaid.
