The Disaster Management, Initiatives and Convergence Society (DMICS) works towards encouraging new and organic ideas in the realm of disaster management which aims at reducing vulnerability to hazards helping institutional policy framework. DMICS aims to create a disaster-resilient world integrating disaster management into the domain of government/public policy.
DMICS envisions building a safer and secure world through sustainable collective effort, synergy of national and local capacities with people’s participation, achieving the goals with missionary zeal and moving along together.
- Right from its inception in 2005, DMICS has been relentlessly and consistently advocating the obvious necessity of awakening the conscience of all, Government officials, bureaucrats, academicians, intellectuals, scientists, practitioners, professionals and various agencies associated with Disaster Management around the world.
- The World Congress on Disaster Management (WCDM), established in 2005, is the DMICS' flagship programme in the field of disaster risk reduction. It brings together scientists, academics, policymakers, and practitioners from around the world to debate the complex concerns of disasters and risk management. So far, six editions of WCDMs have been organised in various states of India in partnership with subnational governments, covering a wide range of disaster risk reduction (DRR) themes.
- Another important initiative of the DMICS is WCDM DRR Awards which is awarded after WCDM event to various stakeholders who contributed immensely in various facets of the DRR.
- DMICS has been working towards promoting campaigns and solutions for effective Disaster Resilience and Recovery methodologies (DRR).
The Sendai Framework Voluntary Commitments (SFVC) online platform allows stakeholders to inform the public about their work on DRR. The SFVC online platform is a useful toolto know who is doing what and where for the implementation of the Sendai Framework, which could foster potential collaboration among stakeholders. All stakeholders (private sector, civil society organizations, academia, media, local governments, etc.) working on DRR can submit their commitments and report on their progress and deliverables.
