Who

The Science for Humanitarian Emergencies and Resilience (SHEAR) is an interdisciplinary, international research programme jointly funded for five years by the UK's Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) and the Natural Environmental Research Council (NERC).

What

  • Over 30 research-practice projects
  • 18 countries
  • 68 global partnerships
  • Over 100 peer-reviewed research papers published
  • 79 disaster risk reduction tools developed

SHEAR research has radiated far and wide over the course of five years of research and practice, culminating to an impressive legacy of impact and innovation in disaster risk reduction. The work of the consortium  has increased the understanding of underlying drivers of disaster risk and  enhances multi-hazard resilience in disaster prone areas around the world. Risk monitoring, warning systems, and people-centred information is better reaching stakeholders in accessible ways, which enhances resilience.  The outcomes of SHEAR have brought innovations, thought-leadership, and a lasting legacy,  contributing extensively to delivering commitments of the Sendai Framework on Disaster Risk Reduction, the Sustainable Development Goals and the Paris Agreement on Climate Change.

It is our great pleasure to invite you to join us on February 11th at our SHEAR finale event, in which we will be celebrating our achievements, finding common ground and charting the way forward. We are excited to share and discuss pressing humanitarian-science questions and the outcomes of the SHEAR programme through a high-energy and interactive virtual event. Come connect with leaders in the field, ask your pressing questions, make connections, share your thoughts, and engage with important topics. Celebrate with us the legacy of the programme and help shape the future of research such as this around the world.

Where

The Conference will be interactive and virtual.
