Village Square is an integrated communications initiative that seeks to address the lack of media coverage of issues in rural India, by informing, analysing, engaging and promoting rural India among a wider audience. There is a need for a unified public service platform for independent and balanced news, views and data analyses on rural India. The organisation believes there is need to engage with youth — the millennials and the digital natives — on these issues.
Village Square focuses on the impact of national and local policies on rural communities through detailed analyses by top development experts. It identifies and showcases stories of change led by communities, civil society and market players, through highlighting simple themes such as livelihoods, health, education, governance, gender issues and water. Village Square maintains a sustained focus on the challenges and drivers of successful efforts in the stranded part of rural India.
The Sendai Framework Voluntary Commitments (SFVC) online platform allows stakeholders to inform the public about their work on DRR. The SFVC online platform is a useful toolto know who is doing what and where for the implementation of the Sendai Framework, which could foster potential collaboration among stakeholders. All stakeholders (private sector, civil society organizations, academia, media, local governments, etc.) working on DRR can submit their commitments and report on their progress and deliverables.
