One of the most essential steps of a comprehensive Critical Infrastructure (CI) policy is to define a systematic analytical approach to prioritizing CI resilience measures. A prioritization process involves some evaluation steps and provide information regarding targeted planning and investment decisions. It should be noted that critical assets do not have the same criticality level in order to be prepared for disasters and emergencies defined under the critical infrastructure sectors.

10 critical infrastructure sectors have been determined as a result of the studies conducted in Turkey. According to the AFAD Strategic Plan, studies for the Energy, Health, Critical Public Services and Critical Manufacturing/Commercial Facilities sectors, which are among the sectors that have been worked on a yearly basis, have been completed. The “The Effect of Climate Change on Critical Infrastructures Specifically for The Energy Sector in Pilot Region: Izmir-Aliaga” Project, carried out by the AFAD Planning and Risk Reduction Department, Technological Disaster Working Group and supported by the Directorate-General for European Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid Operations (DG-ECHO), aims to identify and prioritize critical assets; to analyze risks and conduct assessment based on disasters caused by climate change; to determine the resilience of critical assets; and to raise awareness through training activities.

The project closing seminar was held in İzmir on February 25, 2022 with the participation of 120 people, including representatives of public institutions and organizations and the sector in a hybrid format. With the project closing meeting held with participation of Mr. Yavuz Selim KÖŞGER, Izmir Governor, Mr. Hamza TAŞDELEN, Vice President of AFAD, Mr. Gaetano VIVO, Deputy Head of Unit, Disaster Risk Management of Directorate General for Civil Protection and Humanitarian Operations (DG ECHO), Mr.  Abdulkadir TEZCAN, Head of Planning and Risk Reduction Department of AFAD, project team (Ms. Betül KURADA, Mr. Mehmet Fatih ŞEN, Mrs. Esen KILIÇ and Mrs. Dr. Evren TANRIVERDİ) provincial protocol, relevant institutions and organizations and industry representatives, it was aimed to share project outputs.
