The Union Ministry of Science and Technology has stated that Assam is the most climate-vulnerable state in India, with 11 of the country’s 16 most climate vulnerable districts being located in it.

As of June 23, 2022, 33 of the 35 districts in the state have been affected due to riverine flooding, over 4.5 million people have been affected by floods this year while over 100,000 hectares of cropland have been damaged.
