Moving beyond the binary in disaster risk reduction

About
The discussion of gender in disaster risk reduction has for decades, centred on the needs, capacities and vulnerabilities of (cis) women and girls. Whilst this discussion has been and still is desperately needed, the near-total focus on one small portion of the wider gender spectrum has limited a broader discussion around how other genders are impacted by disasters.
How should DRR/DRM and emergency professionals consider gender minorities or the needs of men and boys in disaster situations? How do societal and cultural pressures assigned to individuals and communities based on gender impact risk reduction, preparedness and response? Does a rigid, binary definition of gender in emergency situations overlook skills, resources and knowledge that could be better utilised?
To attempt to answer these questions (and more), the next #DRRLive will be focused on this topic
