The position is to be filled as soon as possible, with a contract duration of two years due to the programme duration. There are good prospects for an extension. Employment location will be Bonn, Germany.

As Communications Expert - Anticipatory Humanitarian Action at Welthungerhilfe (WHH), you will be a member of a Programme Management Unit (PMU) which together with a Technical Anticipatory Humanitarian Action Team (TAHAT) comprises the Operational Support Unit of an Anticipatory Humanitarian Action Programme. In your position, you will be responsible for supporting the programme’s core mission of raising the profile of anticipatory humanitarian action as an innovative approach to combating the impacts of climate change and conflicts and to communicate the benefits of early action. Furthermore, you will promote the programmes’ and the institutional donor’s efforts in the field of anticipatory humanitarian action to raise its profile at national and global level, both in the political and donor landscape and among the general public.

Your responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and adapt an effective communication and visibility strategy for the programme in support of the programme objective
  • Design, edit and distribute outreach materials, including website content, marketing materials, presentations, position papers, publications
  • Obtaining and processing information and communication inputs from the programme PMU and its stakeholders and designing and implementing publications and media products for the programme
  • Maintain and populate the programme sub-websites on the Anticipation Hub and deliver/contribute content to the WHH website based on the agreed plan
  • Develop, implement and adapt communication campaigns to achieve programme and WHH public relations objectives on anticipatory humanitarian action
  • Coordinate with the communications team in Welthungerhilfe, support Welthungerhilfe's media and social media team (and participating NGOs) in communicating on anticipatory humanitarian action
  • Support the media team in responding to media enquiries and endeavour to raise awareness of the programme among journalists
  • Identify and implement opportunities to develop and raise the profile of the programme and coordinate promotional events as required

Your profile

  • A university or polytechnical degre in communication or a related field
  • At least 1 to 3 years of work experience
  • Previous proven experience working in humanitarian communication roles
  • High level of proficiency in Microsoft Office, website administration (WorldPress), content management systems and social media platforms (Linkedin, Facebook, Twitter)
  • Proficient in designing and publishing software (e.g. InDesign/Photoshop)
  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal skills and the ability to build relationships with stakeholders from different cultures
  • Good time management and organisational skills
  • Very good English language skills; French language skills would be an asset
