The position is to be filled as soon as possible with a contract duration of two years. Employment location will be Bonn, Germany. 

As Junior Expert Anticipatory Humanitarian Action, you will be a member of a Programme Management Unit (PMU) which together with a Technical Anticipatory Humanitarian Action Team (TAHAT) comprises the Operational Support Unit of an Anticipatory Humanitarian Action Programme. In your role, you will be responsible for supporting the development of trigger models and impact-based forecasts through relevant technical expertise.

Your responsibilities

  • Support the PMU and TAHAT in general, including ensuring a technical support function to the programme
  • Support remote sensing approaches and the use of GIS tools, analysis and visualisation in anticipatory humanitarian action
  • Support the design and implementation of impact-based forecasting approaches and risk and vulnerability analysis in anticipatory humanitarian action
  • Support to data preparation, analysis and visualisation
  • Participation and support in relevant national and international meetings, seminars, conferences and dialogue platforms for anticipatory humanitarian action
  • Participate in the preparation of thematic briefings
  • Support to the organisation and management of the programme

Your profile

  • A university or polytechnic degree relevant to the position, e.g. UNU/EHS/NOHA, Geography, Disaster Risk Reduction, Disaster Risk Management
  • Knowledge of different approaches to remote sensing and the use of GIS tools, analysis and visualisation
  • Knowledge in conducting disaster risk and vulnerability analyses
  • Knowledge in data preparation, analysis and visualisation
  • Willingness to work in countries where Welthungerhilfe or the programme is implementing or supporting proactive humanitarian action activities
  • Very good English language skills; French language skills are an advantage
