The National Centre for Resilience (NCR) is pleased to announce a grant funding opportunity for short projects focused on enhancing community resilience to natural hazards across Scotland. We believe that building resilient communities is crucial to minimise the impact of natural hazards, protect lives, and promote sustainable development. This funding initiative aims to support innovative and impactful projects that empower communities to effectively respond to, adapt to, and recover from natural disasters and hazards.

Grant Details:

Funding Amount: up to £25K

Application Deadline: 30th June 2023

Project Duration: all applications must deliver on stated project objectives before 31st March 2024

Eligibility: Third Sector organisations, Category 1& 2 responders and any community group supporting communities to prepare for, respond to and recover from natural hazard events. Projects can have a localised element but must include a proposal for an across Scotland approach. 

Grant Objectives:

The grant funding is intended to support projects that address one or more of the following objectives:

  1. Community Preparedness: Develop strategies and initiatives to enhance the preparedness of communities in Scotland for natural hazards, including but not limited to floods, storms, landslides, wildfires, and severe weather events.
  2. Risk Assessment and Early Warning Systems: Improve the capacity of communities to assess and monitor natural hazards, establish effective early warning systems, and implement appropriate response plans.
  3. Infrastructure and Built Environment Resilience: Enhance the resilience of critical infrastructure, buildings, and key community assets to withstand and recover from natural hazards.
  4. Social and Economic Resilience: Promote projects that address the social and economic impacts of natural hazards on communities, including initiatives that focus on vulnerable populations and underserved areas.
  5. Community Engagement and Education: Develop and implement educational programs, training workshops, and public awareness campaigns to engage community members in building resilience, fostering a culture of preparedness, and encouraging sustainable practices.

Application Guidelines:

Applicants must submit a comprehensive project proposal available to download from our website https://www.gla.ac.uk/research/az/ncr/howtoworkwithus/#applyforfunding

Please include the following information:

  1. Project Summary: Provide a brief overview of the project, including its objectives, target community, and expected outcomes.
  2. Methodology: Describe the approach, activities, and strategies that will be employed to achieve the project objectives.
  3. Budget: Present a detailed budget breakdown, including an itemised list of expenses related to project implementation, such as personnel, training, and community engagement activities.
  4. Timeline: Outline the project timeline, including key milestones and deliverables.
  5. Project Team: Provide information about the project team members, their qualifications, and their roles and responsibilities.
  6. Sustainability Plan: Describe how the project outcomes and benefits will be sustained beyond the grant period.
  7. Monitoring and Evaluation: Explain the monitoring and evaluation strategies that will be implemented to assess project success and measure its impact.

Review and Selection Process:

All applications will be reviewed by an independent panel of experts with knowledge and experience in community resilience and natural hazards. The selection process will be based on the project's alignment with the grant objectives, feasibility, innovation, potential impact, and capacity to create lasting change.
