Strengthening financial resilience in the Pacific: 16 lessons learned from implementing climate risk insurance solutions

This publication reflects on and captures the key lessons learned of the programme team from developing and implementing parametric microinsurance solutions, specifically in a Small Island Developing States (SIDS) context.

It presents 16 lessons learned such as:

• strategic partnerships are key for success, scaling-up and ensuring sustainability 
• active engagement of both public and private sector partners is crucial 
• strategic selection of weather data sources for model development and payout processing is needed 
• climate risk insurance can meaningfully contribute to national social protection systems 
• product communication materials should be created in a digestible format for all the stakeholders 
• social norms can affect access and inclusion of women and other vulnerable groups
