The Intact Centre on Climate Adaptation (Intact Centre) is an applied research Centre with a national focus, located within the Faculty of Environment, University of Waterloo. It was established with a gift from Intact Financial in 2015 and continues to operate with on-going support. The Intact Centre works with residents, communities, governments, and businesses to reduce risks associated with climate change, such as flooding, wildfire, and extreme heat. The Centre has developed numerous guidelines to mitigate extreme weather risk and is quoted almost daily in the media, focusing consistently on the need to act with urgency to limit the impacts of climate change and extreme weather.
The Sendai Framework Voluntary Commitments (SFVC) online platform allows stakeholders to inform the public about their work on DRR. The SFVC online platform is a useful toolto know who is doing what and where for the implementation of the Sendai Framework, which could foster potential collaboration among stakeholders. All stakeholders (private sector, civil society organizations, academia, media, local governments, etc.) working on DRR can submit their commitments and report on their progress and deliverables.
