Thematic report on climate and disaster-resilient infrastructure in the Pacific
The report finds that the Sendai Framework has fostered a more systematic approach to resilient infrastructure and a stronger focus on long-term collaboration. Recognizing the countless efforts to build resilient infrastructure in the past and at present, this report captures high-level trends in making Pacific Island countries’ infrastructure resilient to climate change and disasters.
Further efforts are needed to define resilient infrastructure in policy, planning and practice, and to scale up investments in new resilient infrastructure. The training of skilled workers could make important contributions to infrastructure investments and reduce dependence on external workforce. Building codes need review and updating and translation into legislation. Strengthening multi-stakeholder partnerships and engaging local actors could contribute to the effective integration of climate and disaster risk agendas and more resilient infrastructure.
